The story

Choosing a college is often a family’s largest financial decision, made at seventeen with brochures for evidence. LE TEEN brings an editorial voice and public data to that choice.

Its Worth It calculator helps people examine the assumptions and the financial trade-offs in a potential college choice. School and major comparisons, rankings and explainers make the public data behind them readable. The calculator works in modelled estimates: a way to examine a decision, not a forecast of anyone’s future.

What it does today

  • Worth It calculatorExamine the assumptions and financial trade-offs in a potential college choice.
  • School and major comparisonsSet options side by side.
  • Rankings and explainersSupporting explanations of the public data used.

Where the thesis is being explored

A publication and a product, held by one editor.

Media businesses are classically staff-heavy: writers, editors, designers, developers. LE TEEN explores whether a distinctive editorial identity and a set of data tools can be combined and sustained by a single operator.

The question is less about volume and more about voice: whether one person, well equipped, can give an audience something with a point of view.

  • Can editorial quality survive a one-person newsroom?
  • How should modelled estimates be explained to a young audience?
